The newest way to addict your kids.

What does the tobacco industry do when confronted with fewer
places to smoke? Introduce “smokeless” products—
marketed as a way to enjoy tobacco “anywhere and anytime.”
But smokeless does not mean harmless.

A special danger to youth,
new smokeless products…

  • Look and taste like candy.
  • Mask the harshness of tobacco and taste better to
    young customers.
  • All contain nicotine, the ingredient causing addiction.
  • Serve as a gateway to cigarette smoking among youth.

Even the tobacco industry avoids claiming these products
are safe alternatives to conventional cigarettes. The new
smokeless tobacco is still tobacco, leading to addiction and
disease.

Keep an eye out for these
new smokeless products:

 

SNUS (pronounced snoose)

  • Small pouches of tobacco kept in the mouth
    between the lip and gum
  • Breaks down the skin in the mouth and causes sores
  • Different than chewing tobacco because they are spit-free

LOZENGES

  • Finely processed tobacco compressed into dissolvable,
    pill-shaped tablets
  • Packaged in blister packs in a cardboard box,
    like Over-The-Counter medications and gum
  • Popular brands, Ariva and Stonewall

ORBS*

  • Fine grain tobacco combined with additives and
    compressed into dissolvable pellets
  • Each pellet contains 1 mg of nicotine and dissolves
    in the mouth within 10 or 15 minutes
  • Packaged in small plastic container that is similar
    to breath mints

STICKS*

  • Dissolvable twisted stick that closely resembles
    a toothpick
  • Inserted in the mouth between upper lip and gum and
    dissolves in about 20 to 30 minutes
  • Packaged in small plastic container

STRIPS*

  • Dissolvable film that use same technology as breath freshening strips
  • Placed on tongue and dissolve instantly, within 2 to 3 minutes
  • Packaged in small plastic container
